I've been thinking about having an en masse weekend away in Summer 2008 for anyone anywhere who's connected up with the notion of peace church somehow - a weekend for people from all over to get together and say hello to other people in other places who're similarly walking their faith journey off the beaten track. I've talked the idea with several people here in Brum and had a generally positive response, so now it's time to ask the question to others...
Fancy meeting up with other people who're connecting with peace church in some way? Up for a weekend camping in the country somewhere, playing frisbee, barbequing anything that doesn't move quick enough? Would you be interested in coming along?
A couple of years ago we here in Birmingham had a weekend away together in the Wyre Forest. It was a great weekend, but we didn't manage to do it again either last year or this.
In the interim several other groups of people around the UK have started to work with what it might mean for them to be peace church, this website has been getting an increasing amount of traffic, and our Facebook group has had people from all over join up.
So, I thought it'd be really fun to have another weekend away, but this time not just make it a Birmingham-only weekend and invite people from wherever who've connected/are connecting in any way, shape or form with the peace church way of thinking/being. It's an open invitation, no matter how, when or how often you've connected with peace church.
The weekend would be kind of arrive Friday evening, do something specific all together on the Saturday evening (like a big barbeque, maybe a gig or performance or cabaret or something like that if there's anyone up for it), and then wind up late Sunday. No date is fixed but we'd aim for something like the last weekend in June (before most people start going away on summer holidays).
The weekend would be very chilled and relaxed, loads of laughs and general merriment, no formality to speak of. This is certainly not a peace church convention or conference! No damn seminars or any of that malarkey! It's a gathering, nothing more.
There might be a small cost, if we need to hire a field, portaloos, whatever - we'll try to make the event as lo-fi as possible so costs are minimal, but thought I'd better mention it just so you know.
So, are you up for it? Game on?
If you are, please note your interest be leaving a comment below. Please let me know soon - we'll need to get cracking with planning, so it'd be good to know roughly how many people would be interested soonish.Could you also please indicate the number of people in your family/household/party if you're replying on behalf of a bunch of people? Thanks.
Party on, dudes!
Me and the family would be definately up for it...sounds fantastic. If we could provisionally set a date we are aiming for that would be great, so I can block it out in my diary (weekends get very booked up very quickly). We'll bring the camper van!
We'll get a date down as soon as poss.
Pencil in last week in June for the time being. I can't think of anything that'd make that a no-go now, but will just need to double- and triple-check everything!
Hi - I was on last year's Workshop in London! I and a couple of friends would be up for a peace church weekend away...
Also can anyone tell me how to get in touch with Bristol Peace Church community? I can't work it out from the website but I'm thinking of moving to Bristol and so would love to get in touch.
Thanks
Claire

Really glad you're interested in the proposed weekend away next summer - just so I know, does that mean 3 of you, all adults....?
We've had nothing but a positive response so far, though not a huge reply. Enough to get cracking on organising something, though. Will let you know as details unfold.
And I've emailed the Bristol folks to let them know you're eager to make contact.
Ok?
Joe
Thanks for your reply. It's good to know the site is checked so regularly!
It would be 3 adults - but 1 of those very tentative...if I can have details nearer the time, I can let you know for definite.
Take care
Claire
Sounds good Joe. Presumably it is plus children?
Very much so - one of the key things with peace church - kids are not sidelined (though some peace and quiet is appreciated from time to time!).
Sara and I (and kids) would definitely be up for this (I've not actually checked with her, but we really enjoyed the last one). Have you any venue ideas?
Depends quite on numbers. Midlands-ish would be good - more central for those coming up from the south and down from the north. Some sort of farmer's field I guess is most likely.
When I've got a rough handle on numbers then I'll get cracking on venues.
Any good ideas?
Yo! This would be great! Just don't book it for 7/8 June 08 as that's an Advanced Workshop date... 31May/1 June is the end of half term (at least in Cov) so some of us could come a bit earlier on the Friday... Just a thought!
Cheers
Jo
Sure, sign me up.
There would be Elaine and I and the 2 kids.
Hi Joe
Have you made any progress in deciding on a date for the peace church w/e away? The diary is starting to get booked up....
Cheers
Jo
