Peace church is a way of thinking. It is a particular approach to being a Christian faith community that is built on an understanding of the Hebrew idea of shalom, and seeking to work out what that might mean in practice.
If you've never heard about shalom before, or would like to explore the idea more, there's a shalom primer on this website.
Peace church is not a denomination or a new movement or anything silly like that, nor will it ever be. However, there are many churches and faith communities from the Mennonite, Quaker and Brethren traditions who have historically called themselves peace churches. Whilst we feel a strong sense of affinity and even kinship with the historic peace churches, we would also distinguish ourselves from them.
At the moment there are three communites actively working with the ideas of peace church, though there are many more who are playing around with the ideas.
If you're working with what it might mean to be a peace church and would like to have your story added here, please contact us - we'd love to hear from you.
