Rediscovering the lost language of lament.
Venue: In your own space, in your own time.
A meditation to do in your own time, in your own space, setting the scene for our Lenten meditations for this year. Apart from this first meditation, all of the Sunday evening lent meditations will be at our place (The Bakers' place) for anyone interested in coming - they're just something that Sarah and I want to do during lent and if anyone else would like to come along then you'll be very, very welcome.

As you may well be aware, the theme of our meditations is lament (see also this post on the Hidden Face of God).

Much of our lenten mediations are inspired by a book I've recently been reading by Walter Brueggemann, Deep Memory, Exuberant Hope: Contested Truth in a Post-Christian World
. Brueggemann is an Old Testament scholar with a unique perspective and I've been thoroughly taken with his approach, his scolarship and his style.
It's also informed in large part by a recent CD by Michael Card, The Hidden Face of God. Michael Card and his music have been extremely important for me in my journey of faith - his music and lyrics have consistently helped me to see themes and passages of the Bible and facets of the Christian faith in dramatic new light. Some of the songs on the album will form part of the foundation for our lenten meditations.
